Dozens of rare sea turtle hatchlings scrambled to the sea after their release in West Sumatra in Indonesia on Sunday. (March 27).

According to the conservation charity that organised the event, a total of 70 olive ridley sea turtles were released into the sea.

The eggs were collected from nests weeks earlier and hatched in incubators.

Turtle conservation Jambak sea turtle camp releases 70 Lekang turtles into the sea at Pasir Jambak Beach, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia on Sunday (27/3/2022). The turtle is the last hatching in the early season after incubation or rescued from 8 nests of turtle eggs. The manager of Jambak Sea Turtle, Pati Hariyose explained, earlier this year as many as 70 turtles were released into the sea and witnessed by visitors, the majority of whom are children, as a means of education to care for the environment. "In West Sumatra the turtles that exist include hawksbill turtles, leatherback turtles, olive ridley turtles and green oenyu turtles, while those released or turtles that are on the brown sandy coast are the majority of sea turtles," he explained (moozamochi).


Sebanyak 70 Penyu Lekang dilepas ke laut

Konservasi penyu Jambak sea turtle camp melepas 70 Penyu Lekang ke laut di Pantai Pasir Jambak, Padang, Sumatera Barat, Indonesia pada Minggu (27/3/2022).

Penyu tersebut merupakan penetasan terakhir di musim awal tahun usai inkubasi atau di selamatkan dari 8 sarang telur penyu.

Pengelola Jambak Sea Turtle, Pati Hariyose menjelaskan, pada awal tahun ini sebanyak 70 Penyu dilepas kelaut dan disaksikan oleh pengunjung yang mayoritas adalah anak-anak sebagai sarana edukasi peduli lingkungan.

"Di Sumatera Barat penyu yang ada diantaranya penyu sisik, penyu belimbing, penyu lekang dan oenyu hijau, sedangkan yang dilepas atau penyu yang ada di pesisir pantai berpasir coklat mayoritas adalah penyu lekang," jelasnya.(moozamochi).
