A CCTV camera at home in southern India has captured the moment a brave dog escaped from the jaws of a wild leopard.

The big cat entered the garden of a home belonging to Manje Gowda in a village in a rural part of Karnataka state on March 26 looking for prey.

The leopard spotted Gowda's dog, Lucky, and pounced hoping for an easy kill.

The brave hound put up fierce resistance, however, and barked repeatedly until Gowda emerged and shooed the feline away.

Gowda said Lucky suffered only minor injuries the attack was was treated by a local vet.

Manjegowda’s beloved pet dog Lucky had a lucky escape from death. A leopard entered Gowda’s home at a village in Shravanabelagola taluk in state of Karnataka and tried to kill Lucky for food. But the brave dog put up a ferocious resistance and fought off the ferocious animal. Its barking also woke up Gowda who rushed out. Unnerved by the fight and the master’s appearance the leopard left the dog and fled. Manjegowda said Lucky had suffered a few injuries and was treated by a vet.
