Six members of a suspected drug network were arrested by Thai authorities for allegedly trafficking illegal drugs on social media.

Drug squad officers raided 20 targeted areas across Thailand in search of the suspects, who allegedly used mobile apps such as Line, Facebook Messenger, and ride-hailing apps to coordinate the distribution of the contraband.

The premises in Bangkok and Pathum Thani were reportedly associated with the 'Gerøge Häper' gang.

Police Lieutenant General Sarayut Sanguanphokai, chief of the Narcotics Suppression Police, said they arrested six people who had arrest warrants, including a certain Charoenchai Kalaphruek, 29, who allegedly used the alias 'Gerøge Häper' on Facebook to chat with clients.

Police confiscated 16,800 pills of methamphetamine, 1.99 grams of ketamine, and 300 ecstasy pills found during the drug bust. They also seized 13 vehicles, some houses, title deeds, cash amounting to 900,000 THB (20,342 GBP), and account books showing more than 100 million THB in transactions.

Sarayut said they have impounded a total of 64 million baht worth of assets from the gang over three years.

Police General Roy Ingkapairote, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, said: 'We would like to warn about transport companies and rider applications. Make sure to check whether the goods being delivered are illegal or not.'
