London motorist using Tinder while driving is caught TWICE by cycling vigilante

A London driver got what was coming to him when he was caught on camera using his mobile at the wheel.

This driver was filmed swiping away on the dating app Tinder at the wheel in June 2021 by CyclingMikey, a video camera cyclist known as Mike van Erp who has gone viral on numerous occasions, and was later prosecuted.

He was caught again holding his phone in November 2021, but the filmer did not report the incident as there was not enough evidence under the laws governing mobile phone use while driving in force at the time.

The laws have since been updated to cover more types of phone use while at the wheel.

The driver went to court in March 2022, where he plead guilty when van Erp arrived at court as a called witness.

He had six points deducted from his licence and was handed a fine of around £400.

As he already had six points off his licence for two prior speeding offences, he was automatically considered for disqualification. UK licences start with nine points, and have points deducted for driving offences, until the points reach zero, at which stage drivers are commonly, if not always, barred from driving for a period.

According to van Erp, the driver made an "exceptional hardship" plea and was spared the disqualification, but not the points and fine.
