Footage shows the moment a plane made an emergency landing with sparks shooting from its undercarriage as it scraped along the runway.

The Airbus A320 operated by low-cost carrier LATAM took off from Medellin, Colombia, at 7.15 pm on March 29 before pilots reported a fault with the front landing gear.

Air traffic control advised the crew on flight 4292 to circle above the José María Córdova International Airport in Medellin for 45 minutes in order to burn fuel, before attempting to land back at their departure point.

Onlooker Camilo E Sanchez L captured the plane as it landed and scraped along the tarmac with sparks flying at its wheels.

None of the 147 people on board the flight were injured. The aircraft was taken out of service for repairs.

A LATAM spokesman told aviation website Simple Flying that the plane had a ‘problem with one of its nose gear wheels during takeoff’

They said: ‘CC-BAS, which operated flight LA4292 on Medellín- Cartagena route, had a problem with one of its nose gear wheels during takeoff. As a result, the plane immediately returned to the Medellin, where it landed at 3:12 PM local time. The commander declared an emergency, after which he received priority for landing and ground support from the firefighters. All passengers and crew members are in good health. (…) LATAM Airlines Colombia is in contact with Civil Aeronautics to deliver all information required to start the investigation process into this incident.’
