Officials in Ukraine say their forces have retaken control of the entire territory of the Kyiv region.

Ukraine’s deputy defence minister Hanna Malyar posted on Facebook at around 5.15pm GMT on Saturday (April 2): “Irpin, Bucha, Gostomel and the whole Kyiv region - is liberated from the invader.”

Video filmed on Saturday shows a string of destroyed Russian vehicles, including tanks, refuelling vehicles and an infantry fighting vehicle in the streets of Irpin. The town of Irpin lies 13 miles (21km) northwest of the capital Kyiv.

Badly damaged residential buildings, destroyed cars belonging to Ukrainian civilians and roads strewn with debris can also be seen in this powerful footage, exclusive to Newsflare.

Speaking on camera, Andrey says: "I have a wife and three children and we spent a whole month here under shelling. Thank God it’s been quiet for the last two nights, you're able to sleep at night, though it seems unusual that there's no shooting. We are used to explosions and shooting, day and night."

Andrey said that he and several of his friends had helped evacuate around 50 senior citizens from their homes to safety.

"The city was liberated, but here they say that there are mines and it’s dangerous (points with hand)."

The entire Kyiv region has been liberated from Russian troops. One of the most affected cities near the capital of Ukraine is Irpin.

Infrastructure and most residential buildings in the city are destroyed. Residents left Irpin under shelling from the first day. However, not everyone was able to leave. On the streets of the city, the corpses of the inhabitants of the city lie, pets run around, and those who still remain in the city are deprived of any communal benefits. There is no water, electricity, heat in the city. Cars were burned, like the military, there are also many cars of local residents.
