Prosecutors in Ukraine filed their first war crimes charges on Thursday (April 28) against 10 Russian service members accused of looting, torturing and murder in Bucha, on the outskirts of the capital Kyiv.

In a Facebook post posted on Thursday, Ukraine’s Chief Prosecutor Iryna Venediktova said that she had filed charges against the soldiers in Russia's 64th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade. The post goes on to name the 10 soldiers.

The soldiers are not in custody and the charges were filed in absentia to Ukrainian courts.

Distressing video seen here and filmed on April 3 shows a mass grave in Bucha. The hand of a corpse buried along with other bodies is seen in the mass grave, along while everyday items such as sandals can also be seen in this distressing footage.

Speaking in the video at a school distributing humanitarian aid, one local woman Galya said: "I've been sat at home all this time in the basement. It was scary. We didn't leave the basement."

Another man, Valery, says on camera that his coworker was killed. The pair worked split shifts.

Bucha, a city in Ukraine's Kyiv Oblast, was at the centre of heavy fighting and atrocities committed as the Russian troops withdrew from the area.
