A furious football coach was caught on camera physically attacking a referee for a decision that lost them a semi-final game in Thailand.

Asi Asae, team manager for Na Tham Under 20s, rushed onto the field of the Yala Technical College in Yala province to confront the referee who awarded a corner kick to the opposing club Nad Kuwing allowing them to score and win the match 2-1.

The two teams were part of the final four contenders for the PEA YALA FA CUP tournament on March 24, with the winners getting promoted to the next league.

However, as the second half of the game was ending, the Nad Kuwing players appeared to kick the ball over the touchline but the referee decided to give them a corner kick.

The angered coach protested and argued his team should have been given a goal kick instead, but the referee insisted on the corner kick which resulted in Nad Kuwing's late winner.

In the video, Asi can be seen in a white shirt running over to the referee before throwing punches and kicks at him, forcing him to run away in terror. A mass brawl then erupted on the pitch between the coaching staff of the two teams as shocked spectators recorded the video.

Asi later apologised saying: ‘On behalf of the team manager of Na Tham U-20 By Kamnansi, I would like to apologize to everybody, including the fans, the judge, and the referee, and also to the football tournament manager of PEA YALA FA CUP for my mistake.

‘What I have done is unforgivable. My anger caused this mistake. I’m sorry for what happened, I can’t fix anything and I admit I was wrong in every way. I will accept the punishment and take responsibility for what I’ve done. I would like to congratulate the Nad Kuwing team for entering the finals.’

The referee has not filed a complaint with the police while the organisers of the cup have reportedly called for a meeting to discuss the matter.
