Dozens of biscuit packets were strewn across a road in Sandiacre, Derbyshire, after a truck lost its load.

Footage from April 4 shows hundreds of crushed ginger nuts and bourbon creams left on the road as police inspected the scene.

According to the filmer, drivers passed the scene asking officers to "give them a biscuit".

Erewash Response took to Twitter and joked: "Please bare with us this evening whilst we try and ‘digest’ this issue. A lorry load of @McVities finest have decided to abandon ship causing a slight obstruction!"

The biscuits however were Lidl's version of the McVities' favourites.

A lorry driver was left red faced yesterday after his lorry load of ginger nut and bourbon biscuits toppled over and fell through his trailer resulting in a Derbyshire road being blocked for a number of hours.

Ilkeston road in Sandiacre was partially blocked as police helped guide vehicles past one side of the incident. Police took to twitter saying "Please bare with us this evening whilst we try digest this issue." Despite police referencing digestives and McVities the packets were actually the supermarket Lidle's version of the Ginger nut and Bourbon biscuit. The smell at the scene was like entering a bakery with an obvious ginger smell filling the air.

Drivers passed the scene joking with cops saying "give us a biscuit" however as some of the biscuits had fallen into horse poo which was on the road and pavement one officer said "they will likely be destroyed".

The road was closed for a number of hours as the scene was cleared.
