A surprised homeowner in Thailand found a wild baby monkey hiding in his storeroom after apparently being separated from its troop.

Winai Akayong, 42, heard noises coming from the first floor of his house in Chiang Mai province, northern Thailand on March 30. When he came to inspect the room, he was shocked to find the baby primate sitting on a plastic stand.

Winai said the young simian appeared to have been separated from its troop and had wandered into his home while looking for its way back.

The wide-eyed monkey was docile as Winai fed it some fruit and petted its head, eventually being lulled to sleep by his gentle caresses.

He said he tried to release the monkey back into the wild near his house, but it would always return and sleep in the same place. It has reportedly been visiting his house for three days.

He said: ‘The monkey has a very sad face. It can’t even bite into some fruits. If it's too weak to go back to the troop on its own, I plan to care for it until it's strong enough.’
