Korean cigarettes worth USD 52,000 seized by police, truck driver arrested in eastern India

A person was arrested after police intercepted and recovered illegal cigarettes from a truck in eastern India's West Bengal.

The incident took place in the Barobisha area of Alipurduar district on April 8.

Visuals showed the large cache of the recovered illegal cigarettes.

According to reports, local police intercepted a truck coming from Assam's Guwahati and recovered 16,930 packets of Korean cigarettes.

According to police, they are estimated to be worth Rs 40 lakhs (USD 52,731.16).

The truck was heading towards Delhi, the national capital.

Police have arrested the driver, identified as Bhogendra Yadav, a resident of Bihar.

He will be produced at the local court on April 9.
