Watch -With no bridge, students force to cross river to reach school in Assam’s Jonai
Students of a remote area under Jonai sub-division in Assam’s Dhemaji district have been forced to cross Sile river to reach school in absence of bridge.
It is a daily routine for the students of Kemi village, Oiramghat, Jampani and other nearby villages to cross the river to reach their school.
Kemi village is located along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The task becomes more difficult for the students to cross the river at that time when it inflows of water during monsoon season.
Kemi Jelem ME School is located the other side of the river and for which the students of Kemi village and other nearby villages have regularly crossed the river to attend their classes.
Narrating their daily ordeal, a girl student of Kemi village said that, they use two pairs of dress – one is general and another school uniform to reach their school.
“I am from Kemi village. It is our daily routine. We have to travel about 20 km to reach our school if the river inflows of water. Our school is located just 1 km away from the river. We have to bring two pairs of dress from home. We use one pair of dress to cross the river and after crossing the river we wear the school uniform,” the student said.
A local villager of Kemi village said that, they are facing massive problems since last several decades due to absence of a bridge over the river.
“The students and other villagers of our village are forced to cross the river to reach other side of the river. We are forced to take the road through Arunachal Pradesh when the river inflows more water. We had urged the local MLA to construct a bridge over the river in many occasions, but we don’t get,” the local villager said
