Villagers in Karaikkudi, Tamil Nadu, raced into a body of water with bamboo baskets in an attempt to catch fish during a festival.

After using water-filled bodies for irrigation, locals began hunting for fish once water levels began reducing.

Hundreds of villagers were seen trying their luck at catching fish in the shallow body of water.

Location : Karaikudi, Sivagangai district of Tamilnadu State in South India.

Excessive rains for the past two years filled all the water bodies in Tamilnadu. After using these water for irrigation the water level went low. And hence villagers started to conduct fish catching festivals in many places.

Once such festival is conducted in this village where the villagers are allowed to catch fishes only with a bamboo basket. They ran and started catched fishes as soon as the can.. Many villagers got a bounty of fishes and all were seen happy at the festival as they missed all celebration for the past two years.
