Hundreds of baby snakes swept into flooded sewer rescued in Thailand
This is the scary moment dozens of baby snakes that were swept into a flooded sewer were rescued.
The juvenile yellow-spotted keelbacks were washed away from their nest under the drain when a dam released water in Chiang Mai province, norther Thailand, on April 11.
Workers at a nearby facility then saw some of the baby snakes wriggling in the water and decided to help the tiny reptiles to safety.
Footage shows volunteers scooping the spaghetti-like creatures up from the water and placing them on the pavement, where they wriggled around on the ground.
Lertpisi, one of the workers who watched, said: ‘The snakes were very friendly. They would all have died if we left them trapped there. They look creepy together but cute at the same time.’
After rounding up the baby snakes, which have fangs but are not strong enough to kill a human, the volunteers later released them into a more natural setting in the wild.
Yellow-spotted keelbacks are a non-venomous, semi-aquatic reptile snake commonly found in Southeast Asia. They mainly feed on frogs and fish, and live in ponds, swamps, and flooded fields.
