Thai dancers joined zoo animals for a parade to mark the country's Songkran new year festival today.

Footage shows the colourful procession at the Chiang Mai Night Safari park in northern Thailand on April 12.

Provincial governor Worawit Chaisawat, who attended the event, said pythons, meerkats,, iguanas and parrots were among the exotic creatures joining the parade.

The Songkran festival is celebrated every year in Thailand from April 13 to 15. It involves locals splashing each other with water to bring good luck for the year ahead.
