People of all faiths across Cape Town came together to celebrate the half way mark of Ramadan as well as the Easter weekend. They came together to break the Ramadan fast and spend time with and to feed homeless people living under a bridge in Green Point on the outskirts of the Cape Town CBD.

In the Cape Town Muslim community the fifteenth night of Ramadan is also know as “Boeber Aand” (Boeber Night). Boeber is a traditional sweet Cape Malay drink cooked with milk, vermicelli, sago and cardamon. Cape muslims serve this drink on the 15th night of Ramadan to mark the middle of the holy month.

Fatima Razak, a Cape Town business woman, decided to join the festivities after she saw several of the participants promoting the event on social media. Local NGO, Gift of the Givers, supplied foods and treats for the homeless.

Soli Philander, a local celebrity, said events such as Boeber Aand have their won flavour and meaning and its was quite significant that it this weekend coincided with the Jewish Passover as well as Easter.
