Dozens of women in Vietnam have participated in a hair washing ceremony in Lai Chau in the mountains of northern Vietnam.

The festival usually takes place in April when according to the local calendar, the new year begins. According to local folklore, the washing of the hair also washes away the bad luck of the old year.

The footage taken on April 9 shows dozens of women standing in a river where they then proceed to wash their hair by dunking their heads into the water.

According to the Thai people's concept, washing hair is to wash away and send off the hardships, illnesses, and bad luck of the old year along the water (rivers, streams), go forever without repeating, and at the same time pray for good health. When entering the new year, people have good health, good New Year, good things, and prosperous business.
The women will gather in the river in the area and perform the ritual of washing their hair.
