This is the adorable moment a young elephant splashed in a stream to cool off on a hot day in Thailand.

The four-year-old baby jumbo named Song was sweltering in the 32 degrees Celsius heat in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand on April 10.

To relieve itself from the suffocating temperature, Song played around in the water while being bathed by its mahouts. It even lay down on its side and raised its legs while frolicking in the stream.

Maesa Elephant Camp officer Win Vorapong said: 'We are open to visiting tourists for free for the Songkran holiday. Our beloved elephants love to see people.'

Tourists visiting the area for the Songkran festival holiday watched the cute scene in the Mai Sae river.

Elephants, Thailand's national animal, figure heavily in the Songkran festival which is held to celebrate the Buddhist New Year. They are painted with makeup and walk through the streets of Thailand during the festivities, sometimes spraying water on the revellers.
