A mother stray dog had to cross a filthy river every day so she can find food for her puppies.

Footage shows the brown Aspin pooch walking on the smelly creek with a box of leftovers in his mouth in Las Pinas City, the Philippines on March 30.

Locals said the dog is regularly seen walking across the dirty water as she lives nearby with her puppies among the bamboo stalks.

Dog lover Racellyn Marcelo said: ‘I felt heartbroken because the dog needs to cross the river every time just to get scraps of food. Since then, we made it a point to always bring treats for her.

'That day, we brought her some dehydrated cow ears. I hope I was able to make her day.'

The pet lover is now looking for families who would want to adopt the strays.
