UK supermarkets impose buying limits on cooking oil as Ukraine war causes shortages
Supermarkets in the UK have imposed buying limits on cooking oil, amid shortages made worse by the war in Ukraine.
Footage shot in Tesco, Sainsburys and Co-op supermarkets in London on Saturday 23 April showed shelves with plenty of stock, but also signs advising that customers were limited in how many they could buy at one time.
The UK imported most of its sunflower oil from Ukraine. With war ravaging production there, shortages have become more acute, and prices have gone up both for that oil and similar alternatives.
The price of flour and product made from it has also increased as Ukraine and Russia are also major suppliers of that.
