Crowds flock to see annual Cuckoo Day procession in Yorkshire village of Marsden
The 'Thieving Magpie' Morris Dancers led the annual Cuckoo Day procession in Marsden, West Yorkshire, on Saturday 23 April.
The event commemorates a story that villagers once tried and failed to entrap a cuckoo whose presence was thought to bring about the start of spring, in an attempt to maintain good weather.
April 23 is usually, though not always, St George's Day.
As St George is the patron saint of England the day is sometimes used as an occasion to celebrate English folk traditions such as Morris Dancing.
