A Kurdish demonstration in London called to mark the one-year anniversary of the last large scale invasion of the region by Turkey was met by a large police presence when protesters entered Whitehall (April 23).

Pro-independance activists were seen waving Kurdistan Workers' Party flags (PKK), classified by the UK and Turkish government as a terrorist organisation, when they marched through central London.
Three demonstrators were detained briefly by police and flags confiscated though they were shortly reunited with the group in Parliament Square.

Tensions ran high this week when Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masrour Barzani arrived in the UK for talks and his convoy was pelted with eggs by protesters angry with his perceived support of Turkish president Tayyip Erdoğan's military offences in Iraqi Kurdistan which included deployment of chemical weapons.
