Video captured the hellish scene facing firefighters as they battled a huge blaze at the Bhalswa landfill site in north Delhi, India, on the night of Tuesday 26 April.

Fire department officials said they got a call at around 5:47pm and immediately rushed 10 fire engines to the spot.

After 15 hours, firefighters have still yet to fully douse the fire, with thick smoke still coming out of the burning mountain of rubbish.

More than 10 fire engines are still working to extinguish the fire, officials said.

Delhi's environment minister has asked the Delhi pollution control board to give him a detailed report on the fire.

With the weather getting hotter, the frequency of such fires has increased.

In this year alone there have been several other fires at another landfill site in Ghazipur in Delhi, most recently on 28 March, which was doused only after 50 hours of effort.
