Firefighters still battling to extinguish huge fire at Delhi's Bhalswa landfill after 15 hours
Firefighters are still battling a huge blaze at a landfill site in Delhi, India, a day after it started.
Fire department officials said they got a call at around 5:47pm on Tuesday 26 April and immediately rushed 10 fire engines to the Bhalswa landfill site in the north of the Indian city.
After 15 hours, firefighters have still yet to fully douse the fire, with thick smoke still coming out of the burning mountain of rubbish, as seen in video shot on Wednesday.
More than 10 fire engines are still working to extinguish the fire, officials said.
Delhi's environment minister has asked the Delhi pollution control board to give him a detailed report on the fire.
With the weather getting hotter, the frequency of such fires has increased.
In this year alone there have been several other fires on another landfill site in Ghazipur, Delhi, most recently on 28 March, which was doused only after 50 hours of effort.
