A huge python was found wrapped around a 'spirit house' in Thailand.

The massive reptile was found by 65-year-old Mueanjai Suklim outside her family home in Trang province on April 24.

Mueanjai said she had gone outside to check the area after hearing her pet dog's incessant barking outside her property. When she turned on the lights, she was shocked to see the large reticulated python curling around the small shrine.

The pensioner then called for her grandson to remove the snake, which reportedly twisted itself to form several numbers believed to be omens.

The python was retrieved, and was found to be eight kilograms in weight, and three metres in length. It was later freed into a forest near the edge of the village.

Spirit houses are structures believed to shelter guardian entities that protect a certain area. They can be found in Southeast Asian countries, and vary in size and form - from humble miniature houses to elaborately decorated dwellings for the supernatural beings.
