A team of brave wildlife officials rescued a deer from a 100-feet-deep well near Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

Footage from April 23 shows the officials being lowered down into the deep pit so they could approach the distressed animal.

The well was a newly dug one and it was yet to be plastered meaning the mud walls collapse.

The deer was pulled by to the surface after the officials managed to tie a piece of fabric around the animal.

The animal was dried up and released as it did not have any serious injuries. It lingered on for a while, still in shock, and then bolted.

Akash Jadhav, who led the rescue team, said: “It was a risky venture. But we were confident that we had the experience to save the animal even in darkness.”

A deer fell into a newly-dug irrigation well at a village near Ahmednagar on the evening of April 23.

Responding to a call, a team from Wildlife Rescue Society went to the village to save the deer.

By the time they reached the distant village it was pitch dark. Getting down the newly dug 100-feet deep well, which was yet to be plastered with cement, was dangerous as the mud walls could collapse anytime.

But the team knew that they had to act fast as the well was filling up with water slowly, which could have probably drowned the poor animal. They also feared that the deer was injured and required immediate medical attention.

With just a floodlight to guide them, two rescuers went down the well, and tied up the deer with ropes and a piece of fabric. The deer was pulled up to the surface along with its rescuers.
