A tourist hotspot in eastern China distributed "1-metre hats" to ensure its visitors maintain a safe distance.

Amusing footage filmed in the city of Wuhu in Anhui Province on the first day of the Labour Day Holidays (April 30) shows every tourist wearing a red hat with a 1-metre-long sponge stick on it at Maren Qifeng Scenic Area.

The colourful sponge sticks on the top of the tourists' hats were to ensure tourists kept a safe distance from each other amid COVID-19 outbreaks across the country.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
