A fisherman had cast his net at a small river in Ganjam district in eastern India on the evening of May 2.

When he checked for his catch the next morning, instead of fish he was shocked to find a 12-feet-long long venomous king cobra in the net. He quickly called the Snake Helpline and a volunteer, Swapnalok Mishra, went to rescue the snake.

He brought the net along with the snake to the shore and cut it loose. He then released it at a nearby natural habitat.

Subhendu Mallik, General Secretary of Snake Helpline, said: "It was strange to see a king cobra trapped in a net as they don’t eat fish. It must have been trying to swim across the river when it accidentally got trapped.”
