A drunk Norwegian man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a neighbour and a relative with a kitchen knife in Thailand.

Herman Aschjem, 77, was allegedly intoxicated with alcohol when he barged into his cousin’s home in Mueang district, Chaiyaphum province on May 3 morning.

The foreigner then attacked cousin Petter Aschjem, 77, with a knife leaving him with deep gashes all over his body including a stab wound on his neck as his terrified girlfriend shouted for help.

He then rushed out of the house then ran back to his home as neighbours gathered outside the property and even resisted officers arresting him.

Footage shows officers pulling the foreigner from his window. Another clip showed him being pinned to the ground and then pushed to the back of a pickup truck as officers guarded him.

Chaiyaphum police station captain Kaesha Ponmanee said: ‘We were informed that a foreigner stabbed his neighbours so we went there to stop him.

‘We found the injured residents, a Thai local and another Norwegian man who turned out to be his cousin.’

When officers went to Herman’s home, the foreigners apparently resisted arrest and attempted to lock himself inside his home. Police had to forcefully enter the property and took at least six men to force him into the back of a pickup truck before taking him to the station.

Local Arun Asanoak, 60, who tried to stop the foreigner from fleeing but was also attacked, said the man had a habit of violence against neighbours.

He said: ‘I was trying to stop him but he stabbed my arm. He was always like that, angry and hurting people.’

Raddaporn, 55, the cousin Petter’s wife said that Herman would always hurt his family members when he is drunk and would trespass their home to pick a fight.

She said: ‘He often hurt his family, even his Thai wife doesn’t want him here. She wanted him to be deported back to his country.’

The Norwegian man was taken to Chaiyaphum police station for questioning and would be remanded in custody during investigations. He was also taken for a drug test after reports that the foreigner had been using substances that contributed to his behavior.
