Exclusive footage captured today (May 4) shows the aftermath of a Russian missile strike on a power substation in the western Ukrainian region of Lviv on Tuesday.

Missiles damaged three power substations and knocked out electricity, according to Ukrainian officials.

Nadezda, who didn't give her last name, was at her home nearby in the Shevchenkivskyi District when one of the missiles hit.

"We heard a terrible blast and looked out of the balcony and there was smoke. We panicked," she says standing beside her house the windows of which were shattered in the attack.

In the immediate aftermath of the blast, she feared her home had suffered a direct hit.

"I thought that it was really our house that was on fire. Although the substation is a more important object for them than our house," she says.

Another local, Andrey, was picking through the rubble today to try to work out what exactly had happened.

"I don't know what it is," he says clutching a chunk of metal.

"Hard to say. It may be the remains of a rocket or it could be from the electrical transformer," he adds.

"It was hit so badly. Glass flew 100 metres," he concludes.
