Woman has face burnt in unprovoked acid attack by motorcycle-riding men
A woman had her face burnt after an apparent random acid attack by motorcycle-riding men.
Franchesca Clemente and her older sister Janna were walking home when the rider and his pillion passenger were caught on CCTV approaching behind them in Bulacan province, the Philippines on April 25.
As the girls walked towards a dark corner on the street, the rider pulled over while his passenger rushed towards the pair and threw the liquid from behind them.
Security camera footage shows the girls running in pain after the attack while the pillion rushed back to the motorbike and fled the scene on their two-wheeler.
Traumatised younger sister Franchesca said: ‘My older sister was able to run away while shouting for help. I could not move from the pain and felt my eyes burning.’
Franchesca had burns across her face to the back of her head and shoulders while her sister had minor injuries. Part of her left eye was also injured from the acid attack.
When police asked about who could possibly do the horrifying thing to them, Franchesca could not think of anyone and said that the incident felt 'very random'.
She said: ‘I hardly go out of the house. I felt the attack was very random. Why us? I could not think of anyone. It was unprovoked.'
Local police are now investigating the incident and took the footage as evidence. They are still trying to trace where the motorbike went after the attack.
The sisters were taken to a hospital where their burns were treated. They are now in stable condition although the identities of the attacker remained unknown as well as their motive.
A local police spokesman said: ‘We are still searching for the suspects. We have not been able to find a motive yet.'
