A hapless puppy with its head stuck in a plastic jar was rescued by kindhearted workers in Thailand.

Passer-by Niran Wisutphaet and his friends were driving along a road in Trat province on April 22 when the dog suddenly rushed in front of their car. Its head was trapped in the plastic container, impairing its vision and putting it at risk of suffocation.

Fearing the stray may die if left alone, the group of friends rummaged through their car to find tools, and found a pair of scissors which they could use to free it.

Footage shows the men working together to remove the piece of plastic from the dog's head. Two of them held onto its body to keep it from thrashing around while another slowly cut open the jar, taking care not to injure the crying canine. The pooch was initially fearful and tried to struggle, but calmed down after it appeared to realise the men were helping it.

After a few minutes, the puppy was finally released, fleeing into the tall grass once it was free.

Niran said: 'My two friends and I work for the Ko-Samet municipality in Trat. That day, we had just finished throwing the garbage and were driving back but the dog suddenly ran in front of the car. We noticed that there was a plastic bottle covering its head so we decided to help it.

'The dog probably couldn't breathe because of the plastic bottle, so we quickly found something that could help it in our car and we found some scissors. Then, we used it to cut the plastic bottle to allow the dog breathe and later cut the entire plastic bottle out of the dog to free it.'
