Huge queues were seen at gas stations across Colombo as Sri Lanka continues to suffer from food and fuel shortages.

Footage from May 8 shows hundreds of residents waiting in line to purchase fuel and basic essentials. Some have had to wait days to get their share.

As a result of rising fuel prices, rice farmers are finding it hard to afford or even find the gas needed to run their tractors to turn the soil.

Shortages have led to protests demanding the government's resignation over its management of the crisis.

Months of blackouts and acute shortages of food, fuel, and pharmaceuticals have caused widespread suffering across the island nation of 22 million people. Skyrocketing prices and shortages of food, medicine, cooking gas, and fuel have made Sri Lankans angry and frustrated. Thousands are queuing up every day in fuel stations, gas stations, and markets to buy the basic essentials. Due to a shortage of fuel, gas, and food people had to wait for days to get their share.

The South Asian island nation is grappling with its worst economic meltdown in over seven decades, with rolling electricity blackouts and essential goods such as food and cooking gas also in short supply. Public anger has sparked sustained protests demanding the government's resignation over its mismanagement of the crisis, Sri Lanka's worst since independence in 1948.
