A careless motorcycle rider who was using his phone crashed into a parked car.

The man had a pillion passenger on the back of the bike but was seen repeatedly glancing down at his handset as they whizzed along the road.

CCTV shows how he failed to see what was in front of him and smashed into the parked pickup truck in Narathiwat Province, southern Thailand, on May 3.

Despite not wearing helmets, neither the rider nor his female passenger were seriously hurt following the colision.

They picked themselves up from the ground while a passerby who heard the smash helped them to carry away the motorcycle, which had suffered minor damage.

Resident Thanapat Kuwiriya said: 'I hope that the recording of the accident will be a warning for other motorcycle riders. They should keep their eyes on the road and not be distracted by their smartphones.

'If the young man riding the bike was slightly further over to the left the accident could have been much worse.'
