A 2-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Patron has captured the hearts of Ukrainians and the wider world as he works for cheese in exchange for sniffing out mines and other unexploded weapons left behind by Russian soldiers.

Patron was professionally trained by cynologists in order to find mines and other missiles left behind by Russian forces by quickly and correctly identifying the smell of gunpowder. When he sniffs it out he immediately gives a signal.

Here the extremely good boy meets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as he receives a state award "For Dedicated Service" on May 8 in this pool footage.

Another clip shows Patron in action in Bucha on April 23 as he sits atop the shells he found while wagging his tail.

The pooch, who's name means cartridge in English, managed to sniff out more than 200 explosives during the war in Ukraine.
