This is the terrifying moment a wild leopard attacked a rescue team recently in northern India.

Footage captured in Behrampur village in Haryana state on May 7 showed the big cat mauling two officers from the forest department and a policeman who were attempting to catch the animal and remove it from a residential area.

Police said a total of four people were injured by the leopard in a rescue that took around six hours.

The leopard was eventually tranquilised and removed from the village.

The incident happened in Behrampur village in Panipat where the leopard attacked two forest department officials and one policeman while they were trying to catch the animal.

The rescue team had arrived at the spot to catch the animal after they were notified of its presence by the villagers on May 7.

Visuals captured the chilling moment of the leopard attacking the officials with it being surrounded on all sides. Some policemen are also seen using their sticks to stop the rampaging animal.

Speaking to Newslions, Jagjit Singh, SHO Sanoli, said the rescue went on for around six hours. He said four people, including himself, were injured. The others have been identified as Ashok Kumar, SI, Forest Department, and Pardeep Kumar, Ranger, Forest Department. One other unidentified person sustained injuries.

The leopard was tranquilised and eventually rescued.

The rescue was carried jointly by the police and forest department.

Around six people from the forest department and about 50 policemen carried out the rescue.
