Three dogs were rescued after falling into a sewage treatment pond in Thailand.

Footage shows local emergency response volunteers slowly descending into the dirty wet pit on a ladder in Thalang district, Phuket province on May 6.

The pooches are believed to have been playing nearby and chasing each other when one of them went down but had trouble climbing up.

Rescuer Natthapong Kongkim said: ‘These dogs lived in a village nearby and comes here to play. We were called by workers when they saw the pooches trapped.

‘They were supposed to rescue the dog themselves but thought it would be dangerous to handle them on their own as they might become aggressive. They did the right thing calling us.’

The dogs, all unhurt, were rescued and returned to the village after 30 minutes.
