New Mayflower steam train service from London to Windsor transports passengers to bygone times

A new steam train service between London Victoria and Windsor has now begun for the summertime season (May 10).

The Royal Windsor Steam Express initially operated on one day a week from Waterloo Station though the demand was so great, the company moved the service to Victoria and extended it to three trips on Tuesdays.

In this footage, the iconic Battersea Power Station can be seen as the Mayflower locomotive steam train departs London and passes over Grosvenor Railway Bridge gaining speed. The steam train built in 1948 is one of just two B1 Class locomotives surviving. The journey back to London is hauled by a 1960s diesel locomotive.

A Southern Railway Class 455 train can be spotted towards the end of the video - which is due to be withdrawn on Saturday 14th May, with the Branch Line Society running a farewell 'marauding' service for enthusiasts.
