Durian lovers gorged on the controversial yellow ‘stinky’ fruit at an all-you-eat buffet in Bangkok.

Fans of the expensive fruit - known for its distinctive aroma - gathered in The Nine Center Rama 9 for the 'Kin Durian Gun Hai Goldfinger' on April 18 afternoon.

A variety of durians were prepared at the event, including Nok Yip, Phuangmanee, Mon Thong, and Kan Yao. The fruits arrived directly from farm around the country for customers to eat.

Organisers said the events has been fully booked with places limited to 150 people a day. Tickets are 990 Baht (around 29 USD).

In April 2018, Alibaba founder Jack Ma signed a $428 million deal with the Thai government to export durian to China, following strong demand from Chinese consumers.

Ma said that shortly before news of the deal was announced, 40,000 durians were sold online, which rose to 80,000 within a minute.

The Marmite-style love it or hate it fruit is sold widely on street stalls and shops in Thailand in the Spring. However, many public buildings ban the fruit because of its strong smell.
