This is the moment teachers crossed a violent river and trekked across an extremely muddy mountain to take vote-counting machines to a remote village in the Philippines.

Footage shows the group struggling to cross the rapids together while locals helped them carry the equipment in Agusan del Sur province, on May 9.

The machines were safely taken to the village for the country’s national elections after the group travelled for five hours by foot.

Teacher Karen Dumanon said: ‘I was relieved that everyone made it safe. We are thankful to those who helped us. I salute all my colleagues for their hard work.’

The Philippines held its national elections to select the country’s 17th president where Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the late dictator’s son, won by a landslide.
