Authorities conducted Covid-19 testing amid mounting fears of a lockdown in Beijing, China.

Footage shows two ambulances leaving a testing site in the city's Haidian District reportedly to pick up patients on May 10.

Beijing authorities have tightened restrictions in recent weeks, sealing off residential communities, shutting down train stations, and urging locals to work from home in a bid to avoid a similar fate to neighbouring Shanghai, which has been shut down for more than one month.

Lockdown rumours have sparked panic buying in grocery stores and supermarkets as residents scrambled to buy supplies.

Officials said they will conduct three rounds of mass testing in 12 of the capital's districts, but have denied Beijing is headed for a lockdown.

Despite its neighbours in the region learning to live with the virus, China has maintained its flawed zero-Covid approach. It has enforced severe lockdowns aimed at purging Covid-19 from the country.
