This video shows a wild fox playing with a wild shrew along a driveway and cul de sac. It begins in the middle of the driveway which is surrounded by rich, green woods and freshly mowed lawns with the sounds of birds chirping in the background. The shrew runs down the driveway towards the safety of the dense woods. The fox chases closely, and the shrew freezes in place when the fox gets too close. The fox seems to enjoy the chase; it repeatedly nudges the shrew with its snout to get the shrew to move again. It works, and the shrew makes a run for it off the driveway into long grass. To avoid losing the shrew and ending the fun, the fox picks it up in its mouth and carries it back up the driveway to where they started and drops the shrew down to resume the game. The shrew begins to run, and the fox picks it up and throws it a couple feet further up the driveway. The same chase down the driveway into the grass happens again, and once again, the fox catches the shrew in its mouth and carries it back up to the middle of the driveway. This time, the fox keeps holding on and stands at attention, apparently focusing on something in the woods. A crow caws loudly, seeming to spook the fox into running up the driveway and into the cul de sac with the shrew still in its mouth. The fox drops the shrew, which immediately takes off running across the cul de sac. The fox then notices the cameraman and slows down/stops a couple times during its pursuit of the shrew. The fox’ rubbernecking delayed it enough for the shrew to make it across the cul de sac into some bushes. This game of cat-and-mouse is over for now.
