Emotional footage shows a Ukrainian soldier in the besieged Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol singing the Eurovision-winning song 'Stefania' as Russian bombs explode nearby.

The song, performed by Ukrainian folk-rap group Kalush Orchestra, claimed victory at the event in Turin on Saturday (May 14) night.

'Stefania' was originally written as a tribute to the frontman Oleh Psiuk's mother but has become a war anthem since Russia's invasion in late February.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed his country’s win in the Eurovision Song Contest, pledging to host the competition in the beleaguered city of Mariupol in 2023.

This footage was sourced from the Azov Battalion.
