An iconic town-centre Clock Tower was returned to its rightful place this morning (May 16) following an extensive refurbishment.

Sheerness Town Centre had been missing its distinctive clock tower since September 2021 - after it had to be removed due to structural defects - and refurbished over several months in clock-maker Smith of Derby's workshop.

The rejuvenated clock tower had to be skillfully craned back into position, with a crowd of onlookers forming.

The impressive 36ft (10m) tall octagonal tower was originally installed in 1902 to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII.

It has been repainted in a traditional green, gold & red colour scheme and is expected to be fully re-assembled tomorrow (May 17).
