Gold, electric goods worth $164,786 seized at airport in southern India, three arrested

Gold and electronic items worth Rs 1.28 crore (USD 164,786) were seized at an airport in southern India's Tamil Nadu.

The incident that happened at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, on May 11, saw officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) uncover 1.98 kg (4.365 pounds) of gold and electronic goods from three travellers. The gold was found within a cavity of a laptop.

Visuals show the police taking out the keyboard panel of the laptop and tearing out the gold foils pasted inside the device.

According to Trichy Customs, the three passengers arrived from Sharjah in Dubai.

They were intercepted by the Customs department officers upon suspicion before the gold was found from them.

The three travellers have been arrested.
