Stranded youngster jumps across rocks to escape flooded river in the Philippines
A stranded youngster jumped across rocks to escape a flooded river after heavy rain in the Philippines.
The young lad was among a group of tourists swimming in the shallows under a bridge when the water suddenly turned muddy and the current became stronger due to a surge in the flow from mountains in Camarines Sur, the Philippines on May 11.
Everyone was able to escape the torrents except for the teenager who was stranded as he stood on the large rocks, taking snaps of himself with the scenic river as his background.
Footage shows the unidentified lad jumping across the river while looking for a safe spot as his friends called for help.
Onlooker Jessa Molina said: ‘He was taking a selfie when it happened so he did not realise right away that a flash flood was coming their direction.
‘No one stopped them from swimming there because it was not raining that day. However, it had been raining in the mountains and the water flowed here.’
His friends frantically called for help before locals rushed to save the man by throwing a rubber ring at him and dragging him ashore.
Upon catching the rubber ring, he wore it around his waist but was apparently reluctant to jump into the river as the current was too strong.
Locals then guided him and told him where to jump, before they pulled the rope with the rubber ring.
He was unhurt and thanked the kind locals for rescuing him.
