Hundreds of devotees pushed on a giant Buddha statue during a religious procession in Thailand.

The followers helped transfer the 20ft-tall Buddha to the Wat Tammacharoen temple in Chiang Mai province during the Pol Sang Long Festival on May 16.

Footage shows the crowd walking side-by-side while dragging and pushing the massive statue.

Onlooker Kunyarut Pankum said: ’That day was meaningful for us. We were happy to have witnessed it.’

The festival marks the ordination ceremony of young boys aged seven to 14 into monkhood.

More than 95 per cent of the population in Thailand practices Buddhism, along with neighbouring countries on Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
