Lucky Helicopter Pilot Safely Lands Damaged Helicopter in Delray Beach, Florida
A lucky and skilled helicopter piloted safely landed his craft after an engine cover broke off and swiped a rotor. The pilot brought the helicopter down on a stretch of state beach in Delray Beach, Florida, that's rarely used by beachgoers. The accident happened around 12:30 Thursday afternoon under partly cloudy skies with a light wind. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident. The pilot was the only one aboard the Eurocopter AS355N. An onlooker who spoke with the pilot said he was "very nice & calm, considering the situation".
