Fighting has intensified in Severodonetsk, a city in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region. Russian forces have repeatedly tried to annihilate the Ukrainians by bombing it and attempting to take control of its northern part.

According to Severodonetsk's mayor, Oleksandr Striuk, 12 civilians were killed in the most recent attack and at least 15,000 people are sheltering.

Footage filmed on April 11 shows the already precarious situation, with residential areas hit by intense bombing and civilians being evacuated.

Ukraine's President has claimed that the Donbas is becoming "hell" and expects the final stage of the war to be the bloodiest.

This week, Ukrainian soldiers blew up a bridge in the Luhansk region, between Rubizhne and Severodonetsk, to prevent Russian advance.

Syeverodonetsk, Russian Severodonetsk, also spelled Siverskodonetske, city, eastern Ukraine, in the valley of the Donets River. The city was founded in 1934 as the site of a new chemical complex, part of which was evacuated eastward during World War II. In 1951 and 1958 additional chemical industries were added, based on coke, and the complex has grown over the years. With nearby Lysychansk and Rubizhne, it is one of Ukraine’s major chemical centres.

Severodonetsk has been under constant attack by the Russian army and they are getting close to taking over the city as the Russians try to take over the Donbass region. People are still being evacuated, the only ones who are in the city are, volunteers evacuation people, military personnel and those who are pro-Russian Ukrainians.
