Thames sailing barges competing in the annual Medway Barge Match were filmed sailed past a historic shipwreck's three masts for the last time today (May 21).

Shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery sank in the Thames off Sheerness in 1944 with 1400 tonnes of explosives onboard.

The UK Gov has instructed contractors to cut off the three decaying masts off the shipwreck due to the risk of collapse, with work due to commence in June.

Once the masts have been removed, only a circle of warning buoys surrounding the wrecked American Liberty cargo ship will be seen above the waterline.
